Manual lymphatic drainage massage, also known as MLD aims to gently and rhythmically move the lymph fluid through the body, especially in swollen areas, where edema or lymphedema may be present. MLD relieves pressure while enhancing the function of the immune system.
As both a preventative and remedial technique, MLD can be used for a wide range of purposes including faster recovery from injury, pre/post-surgical procedures, cancer treatment, discomfort from pregnancy, strengthened resistance to illness and inflammatory conditions such as Fibromyalgia and arthritis.
I'm trained in the Vodder technique and received my certification from Klose Training in June 2021.
Many cancer survivors have, or are at lifelong risk of developing lymphedema, a costly and uncomfortable long term side effect of some medical procedures. Lymphedema can develop during or even decades after cancer treatment, and can be triggered by incorrectly provided massage applications, skin care protocols, and nail care treatments.
As an oncology trained massage therapist, I know how to adapt my technique to provide a safe and effective treatment of people with or at risk of lymphedema.
Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as compression, rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, greater flexibility and overall well-being.
Geriatric massage is a form of massage designed to meet the specific needs of the elderly. It helps to improve blood circulation, relieve pain, increases range of motion, improves posture, sleep and improve overall health, as well as regain certain physical functions that have been reduced due to aging. In addition, since the elderly don't typically receive enough physical touch, this massage can also help alleviate symptoms of loneliness or depression. I am trained to work with the medically fragile and will meet their needs wherever they are at. Mobility is often limited, so I can work along bedside/wheel chair or in their favorite recliner.
I use specially made stones called Synergy Stones. They come in different shapes and sizes that are unique to work in spaces such as the neck, spine and scapular region. When heated, they bring just the right amount of heat to help loosen and relax your tissues and muscles. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and rejuvenating.
I don't charge extra for this service, however I will need to know if you'd like this add on so I can prepare the stones ahead of time.
